Greg Keeffe presented a Keynote at CIPFA Annual Conference, ‘A new dawn: working together to build sustainable public services’. This event brings together high level public service professionals, accountants and managers from local and national government. He shared the limelight with NI Minister for Finance and Personnel Arlene Foster MLA and Brian Rowntree the Chair of Civil Service Commissioners.
His talk entitled ‘Predicting the future: the Innovative design of public services’, looked at ways of using ‘design thinking’ and ‘imagineering’ to deal with ‘wicked’ problems such as poverty, carbon transition and climate change. The talk showed a range of design projects for urban futures achieved through the re-imagining of the existing conditions in order to create new synergies between space, form and content. The projects make use of latent potentials in urban systems such as energy supply, urban agriculture and health service functions to develop a sustainable and just approach to the future.
